Combining Faith and Learning

The Sunday School Support Initiative (SSSI) represents a unique approach to addressing illiteracy in our communities. By integrating literacy education with Sunday school programs, we're able to reach children in a familiar, comfortable environment where they already gather regularly.

The Challenge

Nigeria faces significant literacy challenges, with millions of children unable to read or write at grade level. Many of these children attend Sunday school but struggle with reading biblical texts and understanding lessons due to literacy barriers.

Our Solution

The SSSI program provides:

Structured Literacy Curriculum

• Age-appropriate reading materials
• Phonics and comprehension exercises
• Writing and spelling practice
• Interactive learning activities

Faith-Based Integration

• Bible stories as reading practice
• Scripture memorization support
• Character development through literature
• Moral education alongside literacy

Program Structure

Duration: 12-week cycles Frequency: Every Sunday after regular Sunday school Class Size: 15-20 students per teacher Age Range: 6-14 years

The Spiritual Impact

Beyond literacy, this program has strengthened children's connection to their faith. They can now read and understand scripture independently, participate more actively in church activities, and serve as role models for younger children.
